Misty woodlands..a cold winter…fall of dusk …..eerily silent jungle.... agonizing wait....... tweaking of the peripheral wires....... sense of adventure........ distant alarm call........ rustling sound in front of us....... the adrenaline rush and the flashlight!!!!! Lo behold it was the tiger… all so surreal.... Simply overwhelming, Shail- never ever in all my escapades in India have I come across a tiger in the private vistas of a jungle lodge.  Recollect your telling me in the gypsy ‘ one has to be patient’…. How true. The sighting could not have been possible without you. The pictures have been well received, awaiting the video link (the video footage taken by Rhea was simply superb) so one can co-relate the night trail and morn shots..

Junglemantra is superbly located in the valley between the core forest and buffer zones of the National Park, with its own beautiful and extensive private grounds of mature mixed jungle with lake (over 25 acres), Junglemantra offers an enchanting safari experience.
The human impact on the site has been kept to a minimum. This makes Junglemantra’s lake and grounds a haven for mammals (such as the tiger, leopard, bear, wolf, jackal, sambar, cheetal, barking deer, wild boar, langur, fox, rabbit. hare, mongoose), reptiles (such as agama, grass lizard, monitor lizard) and the over 300 species of birds found in Bandhavgarh , (such as the Paradise Flycatcher, Serpent Eagle, Fishing Owl, 4 varieties of Kingfisher, Indian Roller, 3 varieties of Parakeet, Black Ibis, Woolly- necked Stork, are resident). A checklist of birds compiled by guests and staff at Junglemantra boasts over 95 species of woodland, wetland and garden varieties of birds.
